for over 25 years evolving business with technology
In 1980, after over 13 years as an Advisory Systems Engineer, I left IBM to incorporate a one man company, which I called IMC. As an IBM Systems Engineer, I assisted in the sale and management of hardware and software installations. Since there were very few standard off-the-shelf packages at that time, most of my efforts were centered toward developing custom applications for individual customer requirements.
It was an opportune time to enter the computer services business. IBM no longer wanted to be in the custom software business, so in order to sell computer hardware, IBM would have to partner with third parties to create application software. Without software, the hardware was useless. IBM became IMC’s sales force and the demand was enormous. Along with numerous customers in Louisiana, IMC provided services in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Texas and Canada. Almost all of the services performed involved custom applications design, programming, and implementation around a specific hardware platform.
Although my one man operation did quite well in the early days, I knew it would not last. Technology evolves rapidly, and in the computer hardware and software arena, it was becoming clear that it would take a well integrated team of talented individuals to keep up with technology and create new sales. Such an organization would guarantee IMC’s capability of becoming a technology partner to its Customers.
Looking back to 1982, the first actions were taken to insure not only IMC’s survival, but also IMC’s success for 25 years. My brother, Julius, a PhD in Chemical Engineering who had been working for the Department of Agriculture for 10 years, joined IMC. Soon others came aboard as well, and IMC was reincorporated in 1983. During the years that followed, IMC was a constantly evolving entity. The company developed the policy of making serious investments in its personnel to ensure that, as a company, IMC would always have the tools to keep up with the ever-changing technology. Our commitment was and still is to do whatever it takes to be at the forefront of our industry. This commitment has even included the merger with others in the business who had expertise other than our own.
The IMC of today thrives on the philosophy of an organization that continues to evolve via our multiple disciplines and talented associates. Thank you for your continued patronage. Our commitment to you is to be your technology partner. This commitment has kept many of our customers doing business with IMC for quite a while. Thank you for a wonderful 25 years!
